UPDATED: Two PhD positions available
We are looking for two highly motivated PhD students to join our group!
The theses will explore different aspects of quantum light-matter interactions at their most extreme limits. Your theoretical and computational research will tackle both fundamental physics and the design of future quantum technologies. You will explore new paradigms of quantum optics within nanophotonic systems that are inherently open and lossy, leading to complex, interacting quantum modes. You’ll develop theories to understand and exploit such systems, applying your findings to design novel devices like nanoscale single-photon sources and ultra-compact and ultrafast quantum transducers. If you’re ready to master advanced quantum theory and help shape the next generation of quantum devices, we encourage you to apply.
Position 1: FPI Fellowship (QUALIMAX project)
Spanish PhD fellowship (FPI) associated to the national project QUALIMAX (Quantum light-matter interactions on extreme scales, 2025-2028), supervised by Francisco J. García-Vidal and Johannes Feist.
The application deadline is November 24, 2025.

Position 2: CSC-UAM Fellowship (for Chinese students)
PhD fellowship for Chinese students through a China Scholarship Council-UAM agreement. There will be 15 4-year PhD fellowships given to the best applicants (with over 150 possible projects offered at UAM). More information is available at https://www.uam.es/uam/investigacion/programa-propio-investigacion/csc-uam – search for “Feist” in the list of 4-year projects.
